This July planting checklist is for Pacific Northwest gardeners who:

  • Are surprised to learn that July, not fall, is when you start your fall and winter garden
  • Want to keep their beds producing instead of letting them sit empty once the summer crops wind down
  • Want to know the real Seattle timing and not the generic advice written for California or the East Coast
  • Have raised beds, containers, or a small backyard in the greater Seattle area
  • Are buried in zucchini and not sure what to plant next

It's especially helpful at this turning point in the season. Your summer garden is in full swing, but if you want to be harvesting through fall and into winter, the seeds for those crops go in now, in mid-summer, so they can size up before the October light fades. Miss this window and you wait until next year.

Covers: broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, collards, kohlrabi, carrots, beets, turnips, radishes, arugula, lettuce, spinach, Asian greens, and the last window for bush beans and summer herbs - with specific timing for Zone 8b/9a, when to start seeds in flats to beat the heat and slugs, and a reminder to keep feeding your summer crops.
