This August planting checklist is for Pacific Northwest gardeners who:
Think it's too late to start anything (it isn't, this is the last big window for the fall and winter garden)
Have fall seedlings from July that need to go in the ground now
Want to keep their beds full instead of letting them coast into fall
Want to know the real Seattle timing and not the generic advice written for California or the East Coast
Have raised beds, containers, or a small backyard in the greater Seattle area
It's especially helpful right now, because August is the turning point. Your summer crops are peaking, but this is the last real month to get the fall and winter garden planted, whether that means transplanting the seedlings you started in July or direct sowing a fresh round of greens and roots. Miss it and you're waiting until spring.
Covers: broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, collards, lettuce, spinach, arugula, radishes, turnips, carrots, beets, Asian greens, chard, peas, and overwintering greens and onions - with specific timing for Zone 8b/9a, how to keep seeds alive through the late-summer heat, and a reminder to order your garlic for October.
This checklist covers what to plant. When you're ready to figure out how much, my PNW Harvest Yield Planner works out how many of each crop your household actually needs. You'll find it at palatinogardenadventures.com/inner-circle.
